- Kathryn Harding - October 2024 - September 2025
Harriett is a mini-horse mare who is estimated to have been born in 2006 and came to the farm in the spring of 2024. Harriet came with her two friends Harley and Houdini after they were rescued from a neglect situation. All of them suffered foot problems due to lack of proper hoof trimming. They all had extremely overgrown hooves but Harriett’s were by far the worse and for the longer time. Sadly, her legs will never fully recover as so much damage was done to her knee joints. But, here in our sanctuary, with all of the special care that we can offer, she has already improved tremendously. In fact, she has already exceeded our expectations. While her legs are not normal, Harriett can still go out with her two friends and run and play. When Harriett is happy, she is very vocal with her expressions and is known to gallop around her paddock in huge circles, whinnying with joy as she runs. It is also the way she greets visitors coming to the barn. She has become our official greeter horse in the barn and gives her enthusiastic whinny when people walk in. You can’t be sad when Harriett is around. Her gratitude for her new life flows from her freely.
“I am always thrilled to share my happiness. I know I didn’t always have things go so well in life. But the good news is that it is all going well for me now. I love my little family herd and I love knowing we are all together and all safe here at this beautiful farm. I am happy every single day to be alive!”
