Houdini is a mini-donkey gelding estimated to have been born in 2017 and came to the farm in spring of 2024. The way we met Houdini is the story of how he earned his name. We were called to help with a serious neglect case of two mini-horses who were found with horrific foot problems due to neglect. It turns out that there were three of them living together but the organization who rescued them had a home for the mini-donkey. When we went to pick up the two mini-horses, our staff loaded them on the trailer. Just as they were ready to close the trailer door, suddenly a mini-donkey came tearing around the corner, heading straight for the trailer. Somehow, he managed to bust out of his stall. He was NOT going to be left without them. We agreed to take all three and the little donkey quickly earned the name Houdini.

Houdini is a very kind and gentle donkey. He is absolutely bonded with Harriet and Harley and it is clear they want to be together. Of the three of them, Harley’s feet were the least affected by the neglect they all endured. We were able to rehab his feet within a few months and he now has a normal life.

We are all so happy to be here together. It is like surviving a bad storm and then resting in peace when the sun comes back out again and all is safe. I am so happy to be here!”
