Our staff are passionate educators who love sharing their knowledge on topics such as native plant propagation, songbird conservation, rare and endangered species recovery, and wildlife coexistence. Whether speaking to school groups, community organizations, or visiting guests, we aim to inspire curiosity, wonder, and good environmental stewardship.
Since 2013, the city of Utica has been home to Astrid and Ares, a pair of endangered Peregrine Falcons who have successfully raised 32 young falcons from their 15th floor nestbox. Nature Sanctuary Director and Naturalist, Matt Perry, has been involved with this project since the very beginning. He, along with others in the project, monitor their nest closely and to date have rescued nine fledglings from the dangers of busy city streets. Their story is one of triumph and teamwork between nature and humanity.
From the Utica Peregrine Falcone Project Website you can follow along on the Falcon Cams and find out how to volunteer for Fledge Watch as well.
