Wildlife of the Sanctuary

The Spring Farm CARES Nature Sanctuary is a vibrant haven for wildlife and a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. Spanning meadows, forests, and wetlands, our Sanctuary is home to an incredible diversity of life. Come explore, discover, and reconnect with the natural world.

Our resident naturalists are available to show you around to see the diverse ecosystems of our sanctuary and to talk about the mission of the nature sanctuary and the various projects we have going.

Beavers

In 1999, two beavers settled here and they changed everything. Their engineering marvels transformed this land into a mosaic of ponds and meadows, creating homes for countless species. Today, their descendants, led by Tippy, the friendly, sweet-potato-loving matriarch, carry on their legacy. Visitors may be lucky enough to glimpse Tippy or one of her family members during an afternoon tour.

Bird Nest Boxes

Scattered throughout the sanctuary, hundreds of nest boxes provide homes for Eastern Bluebirds, Screech Owls, American Kestrels, Wood Ducks, and more. Even Northern Flying Squirrels sometimes take advantage of our fabricated housing. Each spring, we carefully clean and prepare each box, giving birds a fresh start for the new season.

Releasing Rehabilitated Wildlife

We proudly partner with local wildlife rehabilitators, offering a haven and habitat for animals returning to the wild. From hawks and owls to crows, bitterns, and bats, we celebrate each release as a victory – for an individual animal, for conservation, and for the future diversity of the sanctuary’s habitats.
